The end of the war

Dear diary,

Today happened something what we expected and were afraid of happening. We had to surrender. Everybody in the city knew that, we were just waiting and praying that this moment woul be as painless as possible.

General Pemberton suggested to Grant of unconditional surrender, but Grant did not want to feed thousands of hungry South's soliders, but he offered them full amnesty and they could go back home knowing that South is going to lose. Surrender was verified by old oak tree that was given as a 'souvenier' to soliders. We saw our soliders marching back home carrying that oak tree and in that moment, message was cristall clear: We have lost...

June 2nd, 1863

Dear diary,

June 2nd, 1863. Today North Attacked again. They bombed us today hard time. We saw when whole sky was in fire, burning like one huge candle. We have used to war already here, but everyone gets scared everytime when we hear shooting. Today was victorious day for North.. They broke our defence in Miliken Bend. That is not far from here. North lost today over 650 mens.

War is not only thing that we are worried about. We have a lot of infectious diseases here in south states. The biggest and worst is probably Malaria. A lot of people, including soliders have suffered and died...

May 22th, 1863

Dear diary,

I'm writing again, because today North attacked for the second time. The city is so silent compared one week ago. After North's attacks, the city looks like abandoned ghost town. Nobody wants to go out of their houses, bacause they are afraid of new attack.

Today Grant started to bomb the city. They did not do any big damage, because their bombs missed mostly all buildings. Before their attack soliders shouted to Grant: 'Hardtack'. It ment that they had coffee and beans last night, so they were feeded prepared well for the fight.
North succeded to brake our defence in couple places, but we recovered them very fast. So North could not breake our defence and they lost
over 4000 mens today.

May 18th, 1863

Dear diary,

Today is May 18th. My name Is Veikko Veleslavov and today happened something terrible.

We've been living hard times here in Missisippi. North Attacked today here to Warren County by commanding of Ulyssys S. Grant. I've heard people talking that North has much stronger army than we have. Someone said that they have almost 80 000 soliders and we have barely 30 000. The situation after today does not look wery good for us, but we have hope.

Early this morning Grant attacked to the city by Graveyard Road. Me and my friends watched north marching Gravery Road. We were hiding in forest, trying to get wiew of what's happening. The size of North's army looked so hudge and their soliers so scary. Even that they have stronger army, our defence did not let us down. North lost today over 900 mens. We lost 200. Even that we didn't lose anyting compared to the North, 200 mens for us is a big lose.
So we did win the first day of war, but we can't be sure what's going to happend in the future. We are so scared here, but we rely on our strength. After North's big lose, they pulled back to their side of their defence. We just heard gun's shooting and people screaming and dieing.
